Spent this weekend encouraging some much needed self care for both the garden & myself! 💕 I find connecting with nature not only wholesome but inspiring, watching crops grow & nourish from seed>seedling>plant>harvest. 🪴 It’s really not that different from my day job in L&D 🤔 where I have the pleasure of supporting professionals at all stages of their careers grow & develop into the best version of themselves. 🎯 So here’s to another week of L&D inspiration, shenanigans (yes we have a lot of fun) & making an impact! 😊How do you like to decompress & top up your energy levels? #grow #nourish #learninganddevelopment

As we approach almond bloom, here are some helpful tips and tricks to help trees and bees in an article I wrote called, A Risk Averse and Profitable Pollination Portfolio: Best Management Practices for Our Bees and Trees During Bloom. Start thinking and planning now. Just because it's cold and rainy, doesn't mean you shouldn't start. Making a plan with your beekeeper and PCA is essential to healthy bees and trees, esp. if this year's weather remains wet and warm. The best almond operators are the ones who are intentional about planning, and this is especially important during the critical time of almond pollination. https://lnkd.in/gfwDZJ5c

Once upon a time in the small town of Willow Creek, there was a peculiar old man named Mr. Henderson. Mr. Henderson was known for his quirky behavior and unconventional way of thinking. Despite his odd ways, he was well-respected in the community for his wisdom and insight. One day, the town faced a mysterious problem. Crops in the fields were failing to grow, and no one knew why. The farmers were worried, and the townspeople were in a state of panic. They tried everything they could think of to save the crops, but nothing seemed to work.In their desperation, the townspeople turned to Mr. Henderson for help. With a twinkle in his eye, Mr. Henderson listened to their concerns and then spoke the words that would change everything."Every single thing is common sense but not common knowledge," he said with a knowing smile. The townspeople were puzzled by his cryptic words but trusted in his wisdom. Mr. Henderson then proceeded to share his insights on the situation. He pointed out that the soil in the fields had become depleted of nutrients over the years due to over-farming. To restore the soil's health, he recommended using organic compost and rotating the crops. At first, the townspeople were skeptical of Mr. Henderson's unconventional solution. However, with no other options left, they decided to give it a try. To their amazement, the crops started to flourish once again, and the fields were abundant with healthy produce.Through Mr. Henderson's unconventional wisdom, the townspeople learned a valuable lesson – that sometimes the answers to our problems are right in front of us, disguised as common sense but hidden in the depths of knowledge. From that day on, the townspeople of Willow Creek never underestimated the power of common sense and the importance of seeking out knowledge in all its formsLearnt anything yet??#TGIF#HRstory

Dear bee farmers. *It's a swarming season .* Swarming means natural "spliting" of a colony. Swarming bees are actually non- threatening very calm and the swarming behavior is a natural means for bees to reproduce. Swarms can occur most anytime throughout the year but most often occur here in Uganda during the rainy season eh when bees have enough food stores . They occur when a new queen is made in a colony or when the rains reach their habitant especially those in anti-hills , tree trunks etc.During this rainy season, you realize most trees and shrubs are flowering that means there is alot of pollen and nectar collected and you if have opened your Hive of recent, you realize that it's this time when the Queen is more productive with lots of brood in the hive.*How do we benefit from this season as bee farmers* 1. It's now that you have to add more super(s) for those using the Langstroth hive if you find that the bees have fully filled up the brooder chamber.2. Those wanting to do colony divisions please go ahead b'se the growth rate of the colony is high due to availability of enough forage.3. Those who want to catch a swam, and you have empty hives, do it now. Lots of swarms moving, just clean your Hive, bait it and site it properly. You will get bees in a shortest time possible.4. Use this time as well to plant forage for your apiary. We have free Calliandra and other agroforestry trees. Kindly feel free to reach us for any bee-related services. At Mt Elgon Tree Growing Enterprise (METGE), we offer the following FREE services1. Tree Planting2. Beekeeping3. Lorena stoves4. Sustainable land management5. Village savings and loans associations. This message is sponsored by Melifera Beekeeping Company Ltd. (MBC).

The next issue of my magazine – the first under my ownership –hits the shelves on Monday and I couldn't be prouder. It's a satisfying business being the boss. You get to do what you want, dream big, and make changes you've always wanted to make. Yet as I was putting this magazine together with my team, I was unsure about how much I should actually change. The magazine business is a sensitive one, and many in the industry will say that in such uncertain times, it’s better to stick with what is safe, tried and tested, rather than rock the boat. But when the winds die and the boat drifts on a flat sea, sometimes a little rocking is all that’s needed for the sail to catch a breeze. And so rock we did. As a result, the new issue is unrecognisable from the one before. The cover has been modernised, proudly displaying our values and our new contributor –the wonderful Frida Keegan from Permadynamics. Our fonts have been overhauled and improved, and the contents includes brand new dedicated columns on syntropic agroforestry, homesteading and off-grid life. This issue is just the start of the transformation that will see my little magazine send roots deep into the soils of New Zealand's back-to-the-land community, flying the flag for all those inspiring people on journeys to connect to the whenua and their food.More changes are on the way. Stay tuned for a name change in the coming months – something that tells New Zealanders that no matter where they live, if they're interested in forming closer relationships with the land and natural resources this is the magazine to read. For those of you who are keen to support a grassroots, family-owned, consciously-created, earnestly-intentioned, old-fashioned magazine, please pick up a copy at your local supermarket or subscribe here:https://lnkd.in/gd6K84pcOh! And if you subscribe for two years you'll receive our awesome homesteading prize pack and go in the draw to win a hand-made chicken coop valued at $3,000!

Pondering the Fields: A Farmer's WisdomLife and farming, two peas in a pod, or should I say two ears of corn in a husk? Let's dig deep and plow through this together!1. Cultivating a Mindset:Life's like a field; we gotta adopt that farmer mindset – patience, understanding, and a whole lot of dirt under our nails. Let's nurture our dreams like a farmer nurtures their crops. Remember, dreams don't come with an expiration date!2. Nurturing with Empathy:Picture this: you're a farmer, but instead of yelling at your crops, you give 'em a hug and whisper, "It's okay, little tomato, you'll grow big and strong someday." Be kind to yourself and others; we're all just trying to bloom where we're planted.3. Strategic Decision-Making:Life's all about making smart choices. So, next time you're faced with a decision, ask yourself, "What would a farmer do?" Well, besides wear overalls to fancy dinners.4. Irrigate and Fertilize: Invest in Self-Care:Time to water your own garden! Remember to fertilize that soul of yours; you'll grow taller and stronger than Jack's beanstalk!5. Remove Weeds: Eliminate Negativity:Kick out negativity! Whether it's Debbie Downer or your own inner critic, negativity has no place in your garden of dreams.6. Seasons: Embracing Life's Flux:Embrace the highs and lows, the sunshine and storms. It's the contrast that makes the masterpiece.7. Preparing for the Harvest:So, my fellow farmers of life, sow seeds of kindness, tend to your aspirations with care, and embrace the weeds. When it's time for that bountiful harvest, you'll be glad you put in the work.Life's dirty, it's hard work, but in the end, you get to reap what you sow. Here's to you and the beautiful garden you're growing. Keep on cultivating those dreams, and who knows? Maybe one day, we'll all be living in a world full of laughter, love, and the occasional carrot. Cheers!#FarmWisdom#LifeLessonsFromFields#CultivatingMindsets#NurturingEmpathy#SmartChoices#SelfCareHarvest#WeedOutNegativity#EmbraceSeasons#SowKindness#TendToDreams#BountifulHarvest#GrowthMindset#FertileGrounds#PatienceAndPerseverance#FieldsOfAspirations
